Japan officials confirm radioactivity in seawater - MarketWatch

TOKYO (MarketWatch) -- Japan's nuclear safety agency said Tuesday that it detected higher-than-permitted levels of radioactive materials in seawater near the quake-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station, raising the possibility that contamination from the plant could spread to marine life.
The agency said there is no immediate health risk to humans, as the area around the plant had already been evacuated.
Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said that sampling conducted in waters about 100 meters south of the plant on Monday afternoon showed that the amount of iodine-131 exceeded the allowable limit by more than 126 times.
Meanwhile, white smoke continued to billow from the buildings of reactors No. 2 and No. 3, according to agency spokesman Hidehiko Nishiyama.

O designer de Cingapura Joel Lim YM, criou uma mochila denominada Alppac que usa um mecanismo de carga suspensa para gerar energia elétrica enquanto o usuário estiver caminhando.
A Alppac adota uma tecnologia de carregamento de contato que utiliza campos magnéticos para carregar eletrônicos sem fio e sem complicações. A mochila tem também uma bateria, um conector e molas de suspensão. Quando a placa de carga move-se para baixo, ela produz eletricidade. O conector transmite a energia elétrica de um compartimento da mochila para o compartimento principal. Para recarregar os dispositivos de maneira limpa e renovável basta plugá-los diretamente na mochila.
